What is the difference between an autoclave and a steam sterilizer?
The terms are used interchangeably in practice. An autoclave is the pressure vessel, and steam sterilization is the process it performs using saturated steam under pressure. Indian buyers typically say autoclave for laboratory units and steam sterilizer for larger pharmaceutical or hospital installations. Both describe the same core technology.

What autoclave capacities does Bioverse manufacture?
Our autoclave and sterilizer range spans 20 litres to 1260 litres, covering portable and table top units for small laboratories through to large horizontal chambers for hospital and pharmaceutical use. All chambers are manufactured in SS-304 stainless steel across 22 models.

Should I choose a vertical or horizontal autoclave?
Vertical autoclaves load from the top, occupy a smaller footprint and suit laboratories sterilizing media, glassware and smaller instrument loads. Horizontal autoclaves load from the front, accept trays and trolleys at working height, and suit hospitals and production environments handling bulkier or higher volume loads.

What temperature and pressure does a steam autoclave run at?
The standard cycle is 121 degrees Celsius at approximately 15 psi for 15 to 20 minutes, used for media, glassware and liquids. A faster cycle at 134 degrees Celsius and around 30 psi runs for 3 to 4 minutes and is common for wrapped instruments. Load type and packing density affect the correct setting.

What is the difference between semi automatic and fully automatic autoclaves?
A semi automatic unit requires the operator to control cycle stages manually, including steam release and timing. A fully automatic unit runs a preset program with automatic control of pressure, temperature and cut off. Fully automatic models remove operator variability and are preferred where cycles must be documented.

What do the LEW model codes mean?
LEW-101 and LEW-102 are vertical autoclaves and steam sterilizers, LEW-103 is portable, LEW-104 is table top front loading, LEW-107 and LEW-108 are horizontal cylindrical and rectangular, LEW-109 is ethylene oxide, LEW-125 is dry heat, and LEW-105 and LEW-106 are ultra high pressure cement autoclaves.

What do the SLL, DX, ECO and WN variants mean on the LEW-101?
These denote closure and specification variants of our vertical autoclave range. SLL is Single Lever Lock, WN is Wingnut closure, and DX and ECO are specification levels. Each is available in semi automatic and fully automatic versions. Contact us to discuss which variant suits your application.
