What is a muffle furnace used for?
A muffle furnace provides high temperature heating in a chamber isolated from the heating elements and combustion by-products. Typical applications include ash content determination, loss on ignition testing, heat treatment, materials testing and sample preparation for analysis.
What is the difference between a muffle furnace and a laboratory oven?
A laboratory oven operates at relatively low temperatures for drying and sterilization. A muffle furnace operates at far higher temperatures for ashing, ignition and materials testing. The two are not interchangeable.
Which industries use muffle furnaces?
They are used in materials testing, cement and construction testing, food and agricultural analysis, metallurgy, environmental testing and academic research. We supply universities, research facilities and industrial laboratories among our customer base.
How do I choose the right chamber size and temperature rating?
Base chamber size on your largest crucible or sample batch, and select the temperature rating above your highest routine requirement rather than at it. Describe your application when you enquire and we will recommend a specification.
