What is a laboratory hot air oven used for?
A hot air oven provides controlled dry heat for drying glassware, moisture determination, sample conditioning and dry heat sterilization. It is one of the most widely used pieces of general laboratory equipment.
What is the difference between a hot air oven and an autoclave?
An oven uses dry heat, while an autoclave uses saturated steam under pressure. Dry heat sterilization requires higher temperatures and much longer exposure times than steam. Steam is more efficient for most loads, but dry heat is required for materials that moisture would damage, such as powders, oils and certain glassware.
What temperature range do laboratory ovens operate at?
General purpose laboratory ovens cover drying and conditioning applications, while dry heat sterilization typically requires higher settings held for extended periods. Tell us your intended application and required temperature range when you enquire and we will recommend a model.
